Goes

What. A. WEEK.  Not sure where to start, what to say, what to do.

I guess I'll just run through a few things:

Thursday: On Thursday, I had the wonderful opportunity to work with the folks at Hume Lake Christian Camps down in Long Beach to produce a video highlighting the mission field right in your backyard.  We spoke with Pat and his wife who go out on the streets of Long Beach every Thursday and simply provide a place for the homeless to "hang out."  Pat provides coffee and various other treats and simply loves the homeless of his community, being a friend to the hopeless, displaying the love of Christ through his encounters.  It was a really interesting time and the video will be a fun one to work on.  Thanks Hume for having me!

Friday: On Friday, I went to Burbank with my pop to put money away for my retirement.  From what I've heard, it's a good thing (and practice) to get into.  I'm 20 now, growing up.  60 isn't all that far away.  Following? I don't know if you remember me talking about a particular website competition.  "The Crexendo Website Competition is an event in which individual students or teams of students compete to design, manage, and launch a fully functional website using the eCommerce Content Management System (CMS) software provided by Crexendo." - http://up.crexendo.com/biola

Biola University, the university I attend, allowed Crexendo to come in a sponsor a massive website contest.  Naturally, with a budding business building in Mawwiage Films, MF entered the contest, spent many many hours perfecting and allocating the webspace, and waited.  Friday was the awards ceremony held at the Immagination Summit at Biola.  I honestly didn't know what to expect going into this thing, I was hopeful, but couldn't pin it down.  I'll just cut to the chase: MAWWIAGEFILMS.COM won FIRST PLACE!  Not only bragging rights, but also a pretty hefty cash prize of $7500.  $7500?  $7500!  Here's the cool thing: because of this website and the adjoining competition, MF has put itself on the map, meaning investment is now required to improve our company, meaning the majority of the cash prize is going towards equipment, advertising , and other business like things.  The hope?  The investment will pay off in the long run.  CRAZYYYNESS.

Saturday: On Saturday, Mawwiage Films had the opportunity to capture the beautiful wedding of Mr. Adam Rivadeneyra and Ms. Karielle Saario.  It was a pleasure to be given the chance to record the events of this special day.  Are you ready for a tease?  SHOOT:

Get pumped for the finished product, we've got three coming your way!

GREAT story right here.

Mr. Isaac Svensson's laptop computer has a half-busted screen that he has dealt with for weeks/months (I don't know, I'd have to ask him).  Finally, it was time.  Mr. Svensson headed to the Apple Store to finally fix his frustration.  The way the Apple Store works, especially  with inquiries, is through appointment.  I believe it's called the Genius Bar (I don't know, I'd have to ask them)?  For whatever reason, Mr. Isaac Svensson, Mr. Kenny Becker, and Mr. Drew Eccleston (who had appointments as well) arrived late at the scene, too late to salvage their appointment times (I don't know why, I'd have to ask them).  I am relaying this story, so this is where it gets a little gray: something happened to where Mr. Becker received a new time, but Mr. Svensson did not.  Mr. Svensson then proceeds to speak with the Apple representative, explaining the situation, asking if there is anything he can do to pick up an appointment.  The rep proceeds to tell him there is little he can do, naturally.  So Mr. Svensson asks if the rep could at least call him if a appointment is cancelled or something opens up or anything else of that nature.  The rep agrees, so Mr. Svensson pulls out one of our Mawwiage Films business cards and hands it to the rep.  At this point, the rep reaches into his pocket and fumbles around in his wallet.  He laughs and pulls out of his wallet OUR BUSINESS CARD.  Turns out, this particular Apple representative was Mr. Louie Huesmann, the new rec guy for Hume Summer 2011, the same Mr. Heusmann who I had worked with in Long Beach the night before, the same Mr. Heusmann who I handed my business card to.  There are two people in the world who carry that business card around with them, and Mr. Louie Huesmann ran into both of them, separetly, in completely unique situations, having no idea Mr. Isaac Svensson and myself were affilated.  Perfect.

To end the story, Mr. Svensson's laptop computer is in the shop getting fixed.  Rockin.

And that's the post.  Some words!  That's a somewhat rarity!  Wow!

In other news, the year is ALMOST OVER.  Spring Break is next week, then it's just a few short weeks after that.   WHAT?

Have a brilliantly brilliant day.

The Reds

Oh boy howdy, do times roll.  Day's are crazy, weeks are crazy, months are crazy, years are crazy.  You may ask "What are you talking about?" and I may answer "I don't really have a clue, I'm just kind of blabbering."  Let's just put it this way, life is flying at 1,000,001 miles an hour, it's wild.  Just recently, the Fall 2011 class list was released so naturally we all began sorting out our schedule for next semester.  Didn't this semester just start? Yes. So fast, so fast.  Next semester is bound to be an interesting one, I'm looking forward to it.  I'm also going to learn how to cook, like, well.  We're going to have a kitchen in our apartment, so we, the 4 of us, are going to become culinary chefs and make some foods.  Now we just have to see if we'll actually do it.  Top Ramen may replace us top chefs.  Perserverance.

So today I am spending most of the day sitting behind the computer.  It's okay.  That is what happens when you major in film and minor in graphic design.  I'm wearing sweats today for the comfortability factor.

As a segway, Mawwiage Films has been busy!  You know we went to Scotland two weeks ago and then last week we had the privilege of capturing the now Mr. and Mrs. Matt Mongeon wedding in beautiful La Jolla.  Great experience?  I'd say so.  Plus we had the pleasure of working with Nate Goins, a good friend from the Hume days.  Want a few teasers?  Well here you go, here's a few teasers:

Jonathan & Carrie: A Teaser from Mawwiage Films on Vimeo.

Matt & Emily: A Teaser from Mawwiage Films on Vimeo.

There you have it.  Expect another one next week!  It's really been a blasting working with these couples, they are all so unique!

I've got a few videos for you know, hope you like music, music drives.  This first video is just simply incredible.  Don't know how long it took, don't know how they did it, the end result?  Beautiful.

That was beautiful.  Know what else is beautiful?  This video.  This is Eric Whitacre's "Sleep" performed by 2052 separate people throughout the world, performing via their webcams on youtube.  This video/song is INCREDIBLE.  I've listened to it 10 times at least in the last few days.  YESSS:

And here's Eric Whitacre himself talking about the project.  Incredible. Simply incredible.

And that's it.  Sorry if the content was kind of lacking today, video video video!  Nothing wrong with that, yeah?

I hope you have a marvelous day.  Enjoy the sun, enjoy the wind, enjoy life, drink some water, hydrate.

Full Fledge

Holy Mackerelity.  It's been a crazy week.  It's been a crazy two weeks.  Last week I didn't give you a proper blog post because I was heading to Scotland.  Now I'm back from Scotland and I have so much to talk about, I don't know where to start.  That's a problem.  We'll see how this goes, I'm not sure what's going to come about.

First of all, last week Mawwiage Films and our website, http://mawwiagefilms.com, was entered into a website contest.  The last week of the contest turned into quite the blood battle between "websites" on campus, as contestants were ploying with students to support their websites by "liking" them on facebook, visiting their webpage, etc.  We had to give them an answer, here was our viral marketing campaign:

There you have it, two videos that were not made by Mawwiage Films endorsing Mawwiage Films.  I can dig that.  Mr. Kenny Becker and Mr. Drew Eccleston, I can dig that.

Next, Scotland.  Here's our opener:

"THIS IS NOT A JOKE" - Mawwiage Films in Scotland : A Teaser from Mawwiage Films on Vimeo.

This trip was out-of-control ridiculous.  It is somewhat unexplainable.  Let's just say we (Mr. Isaac Svensson and myself) took a trip to Europe, to a foreign country, without a guide, without anybody telling us how to do it.  Because of this, trial-and-error was the name of the game.  We made mistakes right and left, dealing with public transportation, Scottish currency, simply trying to get around.  We have story after story, I'll give you one:

In St. Andrews, the village of the wedding, the birthplace of golf, you can get onto a bus with a 5 pound note and the bus driver will provide change, naturally.  This is how we got around in St. Andrews.  The night of the wedding, at 2 am, we began planning our trip from St. Andrews to Edinburgh, the village 40 miles away where our hotel was located.  We had to figure out how to get there on our own.  We were two Americans in a house in St. Andrews, Scotland alone without the help of anyone who knew what they were doing.  We had no telephone and limited internet.  After 3 hours of researching, we discovered that our itinerary was one of such: walk a half mile to the bus station, ride the bus 5 miles to the train station.  Ride the train 35 miles to Edinburgh.  Ride the bus 8 miles to our hotel.  The problem?  We didn't have times for any of these lovely events.  So we picked a time: 9:55 am.  At 9:30, we would set out to the bus station, hoping our bus would come sometime soon afterwards.  We began walking with our massive luggage up the scenic hills and arrived at the bus stop where two Scottish people were waiting.  We asked them what to do, we got a "I have no idea" and "10:00," which was a great thing to hear.  We made our way to the stop where we were supposed to be and waited...alone.  We trusted the Scottish folk, but still, were they right?  Luckily, 10:00 was on the money and we got on the wonderful bus.  Long story short, we made it to the train station, waited a while, ran into the bride and groom going off to their honeymoon, boarded the train and arrived in Edinburgh.

This is where things got interesting.  We had no idea what to do here, BIG city, TONS of people, no idea where to go.  We just started walking, found a few bus stops, confused, found tourist central and headed in.  It was awesome.  We had our massive luggage walking towards the tourist information center, all we needed was neon visors.  We found out what bus line to board and headed out to find the bus stop.  We find it and wait a half hour. A half hour passes and the bus comes amidst 8 other buses.  This place was poppin'.  We wait in line and finally get onto the bus.  I ask the driver if this was the right bus to the hotel, he didn't know what I was talking about, so I had to repeat it, he finally understood, said yes, and I handed him a five pound note.  He said "I can't take that, exact change only."  Great.  So we got off bus 31 with our massive luggage, ventured backwards through the queue of people and figured out what to do, pretty frustrated at this point.  Long story short, we finally made it to the hotel.

That's just one story of a decent amount of what-in-the-world-are-we-doing moments.  Had it not been for the hot tub, sauna, and steam room at the hotel, we would have popped.  It's a beautiful thing.

All in all, Scotland was an incredible experience, definitely worth it.  Albeit stressful, busy, freezing, and a number of others, it was AWESOME.  It was definitely a trial-and-error run, we made mistakes, we learned from them, next time we go back, we will be prepared maybe turn it into somewhat of a relaxing vacation.

DISCLAIMER: if you want to hear more about Scotland, ask me in person, or watch the video that will be posted probably next week.

That's it.  I guess.  Maybe.  It's alright I guess.  Maybe.  I'm just kind of tired of writing.

Have some brillienceness of a day.
